 The names of many tress have interesting origins. Many of the names have simply come to us from other languages. The banyan tree was called banyan tree by the Europeans when they found Banyas or Hindus members of the merchant class gathering under the tree for worship and business.  If you ever go to a grape orchard, you would see that they hang down like a cluster. Grape is an English word equivalent to the Italian "grappo" which means bunch. Raisin is  French word which comes from the Latin Racenus, meaning a dried grape. 

Did you know pineapples is actually a group of tightly packed small fruits? Each of these small fruits looks somewhat like a small apple. It is the central one which is the stem on which each of these small fruits is borne. And the whole fruit somewhat resembles a pine come. There it has been given the name pineapple. The pineapple plant grows about 1 metre high and bears its fruits at anytime of the year. When the plant is mature, new shoots develop below it fro the next crop. A single plant can live and bear fruit for many years. Pineapple plant also contains fibre that can be made into cloth.
