How did the Pineapple get its name?

Did you know pineapples is actually a group of tightly packed small fruits? Each of these small fruits looks somewhat like a small apple. It is the central one which is the stem on which each of these small fruits is borne. And the whole fruit somewhat resembles a pine come. There it has been given the name pineapple.
The pineapple plant grows about 1 metre high and bears its fruits at anytime of the year. When the plant is mature, new shoots develop below it fro the next crop. A single plant can live and bear fruit for many years. Pineapple plant also contains fibre that can be made into cloth.
