How did the Pineapple get its name?

Did you know pineapples is actually a group of tightly packed small fruits? Each of these small fruits looks somewhat like a small apple. It is the central one which is the stem on which each of these small fruits is borne. And the whole fruit somewhat resembles a pine come. There it has been given the name pineapple. How did Tress get their names?
